The Full Story- as told by our Founder

On September 8th, 2018, The Woodlands Texas held its first annual Pride Festival on the Woodlands Town Green Park. I was working at a booth for the Lone Star College- Montgomery LGBTQIA+ club at the time, and as an Officer of Education in the club I was prepared to share my expertise and knowledge in anyway I could. But what I was not prepared for were the questions I could not answer. The “do you know if XYZ group exists?” or the “My child is XYZ sexuality and I am terrified I am going to hurt our relationship, can you…?”

I saw a need. I saw a community desperate to grow and learn and expand. I saw what little negative reaction we received in the form of open protest and knew we as a community were ready. 

Now, some of these questions could have been answered if we had just had a unified resource directory and more accessible educational resources for our community. I knew what was needed and I knew what needed to be done. Just under a month later I sat down at a rickety table in the woodlands mall food court with my intelligent and significantly more organized friend Sunny. I planted the seeds of change and we ran with it. 

Of course, we were college students and not long after Sunny and a small group of friends got to work, COVID-19 changed everything. It changed how we interacted with each other and it changed how we all interacted with the world at large. 

After some major changes and most of those friends, including Sunny, moving on to do incredible things, here it is. The beginnings of those seeds of change. The goals and values haven't actually changed over the years. But the community's needs have changed and  my new team and I have changed with them and look forward to beginning this journey to a safe and educated Montgomery County.
